Ben’s Gift

Ben’s Gift

Ben’s Gift is a 40-page children’s picture book written and illustrated by Ashley Simpson as a Thesis project working with Mary Jane Begin.

Based on her own experiences growing up, this book was made to navigate and foster kindness in her relationship with her younger brother, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder as a child.

Ashley hopes to be able to publish this story in the near future.

In this picture book, Ash sees her younger brother taking medicine at the breakfast table. Quickly, she determines he must be sick and seeks out gifts outside to make him feel better. When she returns home and shows her mother her gifts for her brother, she discovers this was all a misunderstanding. Through that misunderstanding, Ash learns the real reason Ben takes medicine. In doing so, she discovers that her brother has a Rare Genetic Disorder called EEF1A2. But more than anything, Ash learns that the best medicine for Ben is Love and Patience.
